Fall is sneaking up on us guys. The days are starting to get chillier, and the leaves starting to turn a little; but we’re not quite ready to give up our summer dreams. Instead, we turn to our neighbors out west for a little inspiration. (we know its getting colder out there too, but its still definitely warmer than Ohio right now; which totally makes us jealous.)
When we think of the west coast, we think of fresh avocados, and of course, a little bit of spice! So in honor of our friends out west, we’re sharing with you our recipe for a delish west coast inspired chipotle burger. They’re one of the easiest things to make, and one of the simplest ways to take advantage of fresh grown produce of the summer.

Summer might be almost over, but we’re definitely not ready to give up our burgers!
What You’ll Need:
1 1/2 lb. Ground Beef (or Ground Turkey, if you prefer)
1/2 Red Onion, finely chopped
3 tsp Chili Powder
1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
1/2 tsp. Cumin
1 tsp. Black Pepper
1 tsp. Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp. Chipotle Pepper
1 tsp. Salt
 
The first thing you need to do is get yourself a bowl, and combine all of the spices in it. Make sure to mix them pretty evenly so you don’t have sections of each spice. Once that’s done, add in your ground beef, and red onion. Mix thoroughly in the bowl with your hands until the meat and spices are mixed evenly together.
 
 
Once everything is mixed evenly, you can make your patties. We just used our hands to roll the meat into a ball, and then smooshed it out. You can also try a cleaner way by putting about a fist sized ball of meat on wax paper, then fold the paper over so that both sides of your meat are covered (hehe). Then you can smoosh it on your table, letting the wax paper be a barrier. This method lets you get bigger, less thick patties, plus less mess on your hands.
 
Normally, we would have put these on the grill, but since both our grills are broken now (*sobs*) we decided to cook them on the stove. Once your get all of your patties the way you want them, simply place them in a skillet with a little olive oil, and cook on each side, making sure the meat is cooked all the way through. No one wants a pink middle, people. Check that stuff!
 
 
After your burgers are all completely done, you can add some of your favorite summer veggies, and avocado of course, as a topping. We also used some of our corn salsa as side. After further investigation (with our taste buds) we found out that our corn salsa also makes an excellent topping for this burger. Who knew, right?
