Have you ever just gotten tired of eating the same boring things for breakfast? Cereal and milk? Groundbreaking. Frozen Waffles? Whoa. How do you handle all of that excitement in the mornings?
Well here on the The Perfect Storm we’re all about taking a more traditional semi boring breakfast like pancakes and making it extra awesome by adding a few things from our friends at Try The World. So you can banish thoughts of your regular run of the mill pancakes, and go to super awesome Whole Wheat Acai Berry Pancakes! They’re very easy to make and don’t take a lot of time, so you can totally cook some for your kids & yourself before work or school.
First a little about Try The World. They’re a gourmet subscription service that sends you boxes with all kinds of yummy goodness every 2 months. They make the boxes themed. Some past boxes we’ve gotten have been the Spain Box, and the Holiday Box, which is what we are using to make these pancakes. Try The World
is great for all of you foodie’s out there like us who love to try cuisine from around the world, but can’t necessarily fly to Spain on a whim. They let you be able to make different cuisine right in your home. They even help you out with fun recipes, and background on each product. Their current box is from Thailand, and we are loving it so far.
They’re also offering our readers a code for 15% off all regular subscriptions, gift boxes, AND shop items. Just enter the code ‘PerfectStorm15’ at checkout to take advantage of the savings.
To make these pancakes you will need a few things:
1 1/2 cups of Whole Wheat Flour
3 1/2 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Salt
1/4 cup Sugar
1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
1 1/2 cups of Milk
1 Egg
3 Tbsp. of melted Butter
Dried Berries (We used the Dried Berry Mix from our Holiday Box) – about 1/2 cup
Acai Dessert Spread for the Top – We got ours fromTry The World
The first thing that you want to do is mix together your flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and baking powder together in a bowl. Stir the milk, vanilla, and egg together in a separate container. Make a little well in the middle of your dry mix, then add the egg & milk mixture. Wisk together your ingredients until its consistent. Then add the dried berries last. It’s ok if it’s a little lumpy & thick. The important thing is that everything’s mixed thoroughly.
Prepare your skillet with just a little bit of oil or cooking spray. You don’t want to get too much. Heat your pan to about medium heat then use a ladle to ladle your pancake mix in the skillet. Let it cook for about 30 secs to 1 min. Then flip, and repeat until both sides are done. Usually a good rule is to wait until your batter starts to “bubble” on the first side, then it’s time to flip it for sure. Also if you’re using whole wheat flour like us, don’t be alarmed if your pancakes are a little darker. Some of it is because of the flour. They won’t look quite the same as ones made with regular mix, or all purpose flour.
Once all of your pancakes are done, just top with butter and serve with the Acai Dessert Sauce. The sauce definitely gives it an extra burst of berry flavor which makes the pancakes extra yummy. Even better, you can get your own jar through Try The World and get 15% off with our code ‘PerfectStorm15’! It’s a great sauce to use in desserts, or just spread on some toast in the mornings.
We hope you enjoyed our little pancake recipe, and we hope that it makes your morning breakfasts a little more exciting than just milk & cereal.

I love pancakes on Sunday and blueberry is a favorite. I can easily tweak this to make it gluten free without changing what I’m assuming is awesome flavors. Thanks.

These look delish! Acai has become one of my favorite berries! How well did it go with the dry berries?
It went really well actually! No complaints. The only thing is if you want to save your mix for later, you can’t put in the berries, save them for when you get ready to make them. Otherwise they’ll sort of disintegrate.
These sound so delicious and much healthier than normal pancakes! Thanks for sharing the recipe. 🙂
