Today I wanted to share this super easy to make and delicious berry trifle that I’ve made several times and everyone loves it, plus it’s pretty and who doesn’t love a pretty dessert? It’s also light but still flavorful with the lemon in the berries it makes them taste so much fresher and adds another flavor element to the dish. The best thing about this dessert is you can make it ahead of time so it’s ready to go when you need it.
What you need:
1 angel food cake
2 lbs of strawberries
11 oz of blueberries
1 Lemon
1/2 a cup of sugar
2 containers of whipped cream
The first thing you’ll want to do is wash and hull the strawberries and cut into fourths, and put in a container . Then wash the blueberries and put with the strawberries. Put the sugar, zest the lemon and all of the juice in the berries too. then mix and let it sit in the fridge for a couple hours (or overnight like I did).
Cut the angel food cake into thirds.
To assemble the trifle put a layer of the cake in the bottom of a trifle bowl (or a regular big bowl) then get some of the berry juice and put in the cake so it can absorb the juice, then put berries on, then add the whipped cream. Repeat with the next two layers, and viola!
You can add more berries to the top or leave it as is, we put some on top to make it extra pretty. I would recommend making this ahead of time so the cake can absorb the juices and get more flavorful, but you can always have it right away. This is the perfect dessert for a gathering, brunch, or even a Easter dinner. 😉
I hope you guys enjoyed this, and if you do make it be sure to tag us on Instagram @perfectstormbff, or use the #TPScooking hashtag. We want to see what you guys are making, even if it’s not our recipes.

This looks incredible! Looking forward to trying your recipe. Pinned and tweeted to share. Thanks so much for linking up with us for Snickerdoodle Sunday!
Thank you! We’re glad you pinned, and are going to make!!
You are the Perfect Storm, but this is the Perfect Dessert. So delicious looking.
Thank you! Lol It is very delicious.
This looks amazing! Quick question though…I’m not a fan of cool whip..like at all…unless it’s in my white chocolate mocha and melted! 🙂 Do you know of anything you could substitute this for that would still be pretty light?? I’m asking the impossible I’m sure, but ya’ll can work miracles in the kitchen so…help me!!!
Thank you! You could do a meringue, or whipped icing. I actually found another blog where she has a lot of alternatives. Hope that helps! http://pastrychefonline.com/2009/02/04/cool_whip_substitute/3/
Hmmm. You could always try making your own whipped cream and see if the taste of that is better for you? You could also try making more of a meringue?
Here’s a recipe for homemade whipped cream – you can also search for more on pinterest.
http://www.living-consciously.com/2012/10/easy-cool-whip-alternative.html
Also, here’s a meringue DIY, you would just follow the meringue steps.
http://www.bhg.com/recipes/how-to/bake/how-to-make-meringue-pie-topping/
and, if you wanted to cut any sort of whipped thing, you could try replacing cool whip with vanilla pudding. It won’t have the light fluffiness, but it would sure taste great with some bananas! 🙂
Hope this helps, Kelli!
Loving the lemon action with the berries… and oh, how I’m really liking the simplicity of this delicious-ness!
Thank you! It’s crazy how it’s so simple and it’s so flavorful!

Wow, I never thought to slice the cake and lay it out. I always cut it into chunks. It looks more elegant this way, I’ll have to try it.
Yeah we like the layering method a lot more because the layers really stand out well.
OMGosh. How gorgeous and yummy does that look? It’s perfect for company dinner, and that’s why I’ll make it this month!
Awesome Carol! Let us know how it goes over 🙂
From all my years of baking, I have yet to make a trifle. I need to get a bowl/container (first), but I am also scared of making this look a hot mess. All the layers intimidates me, but I like your directions. I just might attempt this… looks SO yummy!

Nahh it’s not hard at all. The layers are super easy, it just looks like you took a ton of time and effort. You don’t even need a trifle bowl you can use a large salad bowl, or make individual ones in cups or mason jars.
🙂
So pretty! Don’t you just love making these. They are so easy and look so amazing. I have a few little individual trifle dishes.
They are really easy and always taste good! Thanks for stopping by Michelle!
This is too pretty to eat – what a great picture. Your layers are so neat. Thanks for sharing at Flour Me with Love.
Wishes for tasty dishes,
Linda
The layers are easy to look fairly neat lol. What you don’t see much of is us cutting the rings to actually fit the bowl lol. Normally the Kroger Angel Food Cakes fit better.
🙂
