Being a cat owner certainly isn’t easy. I love my little Tiger and Friendly, but sometimes they can sure make a mess, and don’t even get me started on the smell…
That is until Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze came on the scene. It really helps keep stinky odors at bay, so my kitties can stay cute and cuddly, and not cute and stinky. Plus, since I’m not spending my time furiously spraying air freshener; I can pamper my cats with treats & other goodies – which I’m gonna show you how to make yourself!
Tiger’s excited because he knows that less odor = more treats and pampering for him!! 🙂
Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze comes in a great lemongrass citrus scent that smells wonderful. It’s not so strong that its irritating like some other litters can be, it’s just the perfect amount of scent to make it pleasant. Plus since it uses the odor controlling power of Febreze and Borate technology to really lock in those icky odors so that you don’t have to mess with that nonsense. Even if you’re not a cat owner this litter can really come in handy. I put some in my potted plants so I don’t have to water them as much, and also in my shoes so they absorb the odors there.
I picked mine up at my local Sam’s Club because the size bag that you can purchase there is SUCH a great value, plus it’s exclusive to the store. You can get a 42 lb bag (with easy handle!) for $15.98, which is awesome! Plus you can save even more money from 5/11-6/5 with the May Instant Savings book from Sam’s Club. Through those date’s you’ll have an automatic coupon on your membership card that will save you an extra $3.50! That’s $12.48 a bag! You definitely can’t beat that for the value. I mean, can you really put a price on a clean smelling home, and cat happiness? No way.
Now that I’m happy that my home doesn’t smell like a dump, I can pamper my kitties with goodies like I love to do – and I’m gonna show you right meow. I made these gorgeous little cat treat containers along with some homemade cat treats. My cats thought they were purrfect! Even if you aren’t a cat owner you can still make these to double as sugar containers, or containers for beauty products. To make the containers you will need:
a plastic container with a lid – any design you prefer
hot glue
Glitter
Modge Podge
Toy animals/figurines
Your first step is to take your hot glue and glue the feet of your toy to the lid of the container. Then you can start adding a coating of modge podge to it.
After you have your toy coated pretty well you can sprinkle on some glitter. Make sure you have something laid down on your table to catch the glitter because this can be the really messy part. You can use any color of glitter you want. For Friendly’s container I used gold and for Tiger’s I wanted it to still look like a tiger, So I did his with a copper and brown color. You can really play around with the colors and see what you like the best.
After you have a great coat of glitter on your toy, let it set until completely dry. After it’s dry you’ll do the sealing coat of modge podge on top of your glitter. If you skip this step, your glitter will probably come off everywhere every time you touch the lid. So sealing your glitter is very important.
After your glitter is sealed it’s completely dry, that’s it. I love how these boxes turned out and how customize-able they can be for your own kitties. Feel free to put their names on the sides, experiment with colors, just about anything is possible!
Of course you have to have some treats to go in your box. I mean who wants a box without treats? I know my cats certainly don’t. So I made some of my own cat treats that are ULTRA easy to make, plus they will save you money in the long run. You can just whip up some treats rather than paying for them.
To make the treats you will need just 3 ingredients:
1 cup of Whole Wheat Flour
1 egg
1 can of tuna
Combine all of your ingredients in a bowl and mix them until they form a “dough” like consistency. You can add more flour or egg if needed. Then spread the dough out into a baking sheet. You can also roll the dough with a rolling pin but I just spread it with my hand.
Heat your oven to 350 and bake for about 15 minutes, or until it starts to get crispy. Once they’re done cooking, you can take a pizza cutter and cut them into pieces as big or small as you want. I love this recipe because it’s so simple, cheap, and protein filled. Which is purrfect for my little fur babies! Plus, it’s Tiger approved!
If you’re a cat owner you know how crazy those little furry terrors can be. They love you, they purr, they claw up your couch, and stink up a room. Sometime’s being a cat owner isn’t the greatest, but you know we still love our cats regardless, and we really try to get the best for them. That’s why I love using Fresh Step Total Control with the Power of Febreze, and pampering them with their own treats. It’s better for my cats, and it’s definitely more pleasant for me.
Unfortunately, some cats out there don’t have loving owners and homes and are longing for someone to care for them and make them a part of the family. A lot of times shelters can overlook cats, and many counties only have a dog pound, which doesn’t really help cats. So I’m really grateful to organizations like Sierras Haven For New & Used Pets. They take animals in who people don’t want as well as strays and animals with medical needs and try to find them loving forever homes. They also have a big emphasis on cats. I volunteered at the shelter during my college career and I immediately fell in love with the place and the animals there. So when I got the chance to donate to a pet organization I immediately chose them. There are a lot of hard working people there who truly have a love for all animals and want to see them with forever homes.
What ways to do love to pamper your cat? Do you have any problems with litter box odor control? Let me know in the comments!
These have to be the cutest treat toppers ever! I love the big, bright, beautiful images you provided.

That’s an amazing idea for a treat jar, and it doesn’t take a lot of effort to do. The materials are easy to get as well. Thanks for sharing this awesome DIY! I hope there are people out there who’d be willing to adopt or even foster cats.
Yeah its really easy to make. Same here, that’s one big reason we donated to Sierras Haven. They really have hearts for the animals there and want to find them all forever homes.
Omg I never thought of making homemade treats! I have two fur babies though so I will definitely be making these!
It can definitely be a money saver!
I don’t have a cat but anything with Febreeze added to it is an instant win in my opinion! I love these treat jars and will totally be doing them for my dog’s treats!
It usually is! Thank you! Yep I’m sure your dog will love them as well 🙂

Oh my goodness, how cute! I don’t have a cat, but I will definitely remember this for later, if I want to make a present for a cat owner. 😀 Very creative!
Yup! Thank you. This would also be great as a container for other things. 🙂
Ha! This is so awesome! My spoiled kitties would love this so much, I’m definitely going to have to make it!
For sure! They would feel extra spoiled!
Wow my friend would love these cat treats for her cat and I like that it is homemade. Great photography as well.
Thank you! 🙂
Love the idea to jazz up the animals for the treat toppers. Other animals would be fun for other projects as well. Maybe a sparkly favorite animal for a bin of Legos for the kids?
Definitely! You can use any animal you want, and the containers for whatever you would like 🙂
OMG we must be a kindred spirit. I just did this craft with my daughter last week, but not as a cat treat topper however. 🙂 I didn’t think of this, now I might make some more..
Ohhh! Thats awesome! Did you add lots of glitter? lol
These are just so cute! I don’t have a cat to make one for but I do have a puppy!
You should totally make a puppy one!
Super cute idea. I may steal it for our dogs and use dogs instead.
Totally! You should make your doggies some!
I love the glitter toppers. I think all cats see themselves as “big cats” lol!
I do too! 🙂
Those are adorable! I love these, and I so want to make my own.
Thanks!
What a cute idea! I know my kids would love to help make a treat holder like this and feed all the treats to our cat lol.
I’m sure that they would! 🙂
I totally love the glitter look of your cat jar. My kitty would also love the treats!
