It’s no secret that we’ve been having serious flower fever this year. We mention just how obsessed we are in just about every other The Morning Brew post. Since we’ve been so into plants this year, naturally we need a creative way to display them, so we decided to make this really cute DIY Spring Rope Planter. We think that planting flowers and having them adorn your outdoor space (and indoor) can really brighten up your space and breathe life into it.
To make this DIY you’ll need:
Rope
Large Metal Coffee Can (don’t forget to poke a couple small holes in the bottom for drainage!)
Hot Glue
A wood cut out (we picked up this little bird from our local Walmart and painted it. I wish I saw these adorable owl ones though!)
The first thing you need to do is poke some holes in the bottom of your coffee can. This will create drainage so that the water can drain from the soil once you plant your flowers. After you have your can ready you can start by gluing the rope down to the can. Rotate the can and continue going all the way around the can with it.
That’s really the main thing that you have to do, glue down all of the rope. It gives the planter a really organic look that is perfect for just about any outdoor look. To finish this off you can add your little wooden cut out. You can buy these already painted, but we decided to just paint our little bird cut out blue. Once your cut out is ready, hot glue it to the planter.
That’s it! Simply fill with soil and add a pretty flower or succulent like we did. Making your own version if this planter is sure to really brighten up any outdoor area. Plus, making a new planter is just an excuse to buy more plants – which is always a good thing in our book!
I love the little bird you attached to the can. Upcycling coffee cans is such a great use of those cans. Pinned and Tweeted. Thanks for partying with us at Snickerdoodle Sunday.
