This month’s Try the World unboxing features all of the awesome flavors of India. We were so excited to try something we’ve never made before, so we tried out our hand at some Chicken Masala Dosas and were so pleased at how thy turned out!
As we said before this box came with lots of things from India, since that was the theme. There was a lot of variety as well. They had some desserts & snacks, as well as tea, spices, and sauces. We decided to use the Basmati Rice, Dosa mix, Masala seasoning, and Date & Tamarind Sweet sauce to make our recipe. When researching what exactly dosas are we saw that they were mostly a breakfast thing, and reminded us of a crepe or pancake. We decided to take this to the savor side though, with the masala seasoning.
Here’s what you’ll need:
4 boneless chicken thighs, cut in chunks
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can tomato sauce
1 cup basmati rice
2 Tbsp.Date & Tamarind Sauce
Masala Seasoning
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp chili powder
2 cloves garlic
To start, cut up your chicken thighs and place them in a skillet. add about 1/3 cup water and season with masala seasoning. While you’re prepping your chicken, you can also go ahead and start cooking your rice. Once your chicken is done, place in a pan and add the tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, garlic, tamarind sauce, and chili powder. Cook until heated through. You can also tweak the flavor of the sauce a bit depending on how spicy you would like it to be.
Then it comes to making the actual dosas. We used the directions on the mix package and it was easy, basically like making pancakes( and they tasted like pancakes too). Although we couldn’t get ours to come out as thin as they were supposed to be. It was fine with us though. Once the dosas were done, we layered on a little rice, and the chicken with sauce. That’s it! It was a really great combo of sweetness and savory. I would definitely try it again with naan bread too!
