As you guys know, if you follow us on social media, we’re just a tiny bit addicted to buying plants & gardening – especially me. This year I’ve planned lots of garden projects for myself to spruce up my home, as well as give me an excuse to buy more plants lol. One of these projects was making a DIY Wood Pallet Planter. I’ve seen ones similar to these on Pinterest (of course) so I decided to make my very own.
The wood that I used for this project was just some large furning strips that I cut 16 inches in length. I wanted my whole thing to be about 16″ x 20″. So I cut them to make 8 strips. I picked up the strips at my local hardware store for pretty cheap. To make a brace for my boards I used some furning strips on the back as well. This will keep everything sturdy and secure. To attach the back to the front I used some long drywall screws. For the little baskets, I got those at Walmart in the wood crafting isle and attached them to the pallet with screws. Note: If you want to skip this step altogether, buy a small wood pallet at the Walmart wood crafting section.
After I put together my wood pieces, I decided to stain them. You can use stain, or you can paint them. I just decided to use some stain that we already had at our house. Whatever paint or stain you use, make sure it’s weaterproof/outdoor paint since your planter will be in the elements.
Once everything was dry I put some dirt in and planted my flowers! I just did it like that. However, if you want to you can use a liner, and line the boxes first before putting in dirt/flowers. Thats the only thing about mine. when I water it, you can tell because of the dirt washing away a bit. I also chose a viney flower so that as it grows it will fill the boxes and trail down. Won’t that be lovely? I really like the way it turned out, all cute up there on the wall!
That’s pretty much all there was too it. It looks way more complicated but its really not. Now I have a nice planter I can use all year to put flowers and poinsettias & such in. I would also totally put herbs in as well! This is a great weekend project too, because you can totally do it in a few hours start to finish. Have a great weekend guys, and happy DIY-ing!

This is beautiful and so much nicer than anything you would buy in the shops. I like the dark stain you choose against the white and blue of the house. A lovely idea and a great finished effect. I bet yours is the prettiest house around. #TwinklyTuesday
Thank you! Yeah I made sure it was nice and finished so it wouldn’t get ruined by the weather. I’m glad you like it! My house is certainly the brightest with all my flowers lol.
this looks such a good idea and relatively easy to do too! #twinklytuesday

Oh how cute! I love the dark stain on the wood. It creates such a nice rustic contrast with the bright flowers!
